ROLE DESCRIPTION
D2S is currently seeking a full-time on-site System Engineer in Fort George G. Meade, MD. The System Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining complex IT systems and infrastructure, including performance optimization and integration with existing environments. They will collaborate with clients to develop robust solutions that align with their cybersecurity and operational requirements.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Active Security Clearance: TS/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph (Lifestyle)
- Currently living in the greater MD, DC, VA area
REQUIRED SKILLS
Operating Systems Expertise:
- Advanced proficiency in Linux/Unix (e.g., Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu) and Windows Server environments.
- Deep knowledge of shell scripting (e.g., Bash, PowerShell) for automation and custom solution development.
Network Engineering:
- Strong understanding of network protocols and services (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, routing) and experience in designing and implementing firewall and network security solutions.
- Familiarity with advanced network monitoring and performance analysis tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix, SolarWinds).
Virtualization and Cloud Architecture:
- Expertise in designing and managing virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V, KVM).
- Extensive experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform) including architecture, security, networking, and cost optimization.
Systems Design and Configuration Management:
- Experience in architecting, deploying, and optimizing servers and services (e.g., Apache, Nginx, IIS) in complex environments.
- Proficiency in using configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef, SaltStack) for large-scale system deployments.
Storage and Data Management Solutions:
- In-depth knowledge of storage solutions (e.g., SAN, NAS, RAID) and protocols (e.g., NFS, SMB) for scalable and redundant data architectures.
- Expertise in implementing and managing backup and recovery solutions (e.g., Veeam, CommVault, NetBackup).
Cybersecurity Engineering:
- Comprehensive understanding of cybersecurity concepts, advanced threat protection, firewalls, IDS/IPS, and security monitoring systems.
- Experience in implementing security policies, conducting vulnerability assessments, and managing patching and remediation strategies.
Performance Optimization and Monitoring:
- Proficiency in using monitoring and analytics tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk) to optimize system performance and uptime.
- Experience in designing systems for scalability, capacity planning, and performance optimization.
High Availability and Disaster Recovery Engineering:
- Expertise in designing and implementing high-availability architectures and failover solutions to ensure business continuity.
- Knowledge in creating and executing disaster recovery plans and strategies, including regular testing.
Database Systems Engineering:
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of database architecture, optimization, and management (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle).
Automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC):
- Strong experience with scripting and automation (e.g., Python, Perl, Ruby) to enhance system efficiencies.
- Expertise in IaC tools like Terraform or CloudFormation for automated infrastructure deployment.
DevOps Engineering and CI/CD Pipelines:
- Solid understanding of DevOps principles and hands-on experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, Bamboo) for continuous integration and deployment.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) for scalable application delivery.
Technical Documentation and Compliance:
- Ability to develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for systems architecture, processes, and procedures.
- Knowledge of regulatory and compliance standards (e.g., ITIL, ISO, GDPR, HIPAA) and their implementation in IT environments.
Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration abilities for working with cross-functional teams.
- Experience in mentoring and training junior engineers on best practices in system engineering.
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Cloud Computing: Proficiency with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, including experience with IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS.
- Networking: Deep understanding of network protocols, VPNs, firewalls, and load balancers, including troubleshooting and optimization.
- Security: Strong knowledge of cybersecurity principles, including risk assessment, encryption, and compliance standards.
- Automation & Scripting: Proficiency in automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Terraform) and scripting languages like Python, PowerShell, or Bash.

- Performance Monitoring: Proficiency in using monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Prometheus) to ensure system performance and uptime.
